On the podcast this week, we talk about how your metabolism isn’t broken — it’s often just under-fed.
 
I’ve talked with so many women who feel stuck when it comes to losing weight. They’ve been dieting for years — some wouldn’t even call it “dieting” because it’s simply been their way of life.
 
Maybe it worked once… but now it doesn’t.
 
What’s happening for many women is that, after years of eating too little or too sporadically, their bodies have adapted to a state of low energy availability — or LEA.
 
LEA happens when the amount of energy you eat (food) doesn’t meet the energy your body needs for both exercise and basic daily functions — things like hormone production, digestion, brain health, and cellular repair.
 
When this imbalance continues, your body senses scarcity.
 
It starts conserving energy by slowing metabolism, reducing thyroid output, and down-regulating sex hormones like estrogen and progesterone. This can lead to fatigue, stubborn weight retention, mood changes, and even disrupted sleep or cycles.
 
In other words — your body isn’t broken. It’s protecting you.
When we start feeding our bodies consistently with enough nutrient-dense food, we signal safety and abundance.
 
The nervous system can relax, hormones rebalance, and the body can release stored weight naturally — not because we forced it, but because it finally feels safe to let go.
